The Step-By-Step School Bus Conversion Course

Have you searched the internet far and wide for a start to finish guide on converting a school bus? Perhaps you’ve googled away trying to find a step-by-step tutorial for school bus conversion. Either way, you’ve finally found what you’ve been looking for. I’m pleased to introduce to you THE go-to guide for completing your own basic bus conversion. The Step-By-Step School Bus Conversion course is here!

I can remember breaking out in cold sweats, waking up in the middle of the night, my heart pounding. My head was spinning. Foggy. There were so many thoughts, questions, and worries. But there was also a thrill. That feeling you get at top of the first roller coaster drop. Freaking out and exhilarated at the same time. Like you want to puke or dance, but can’t do either because you’re frozen. Stuck in the overwhelm. All because a school bus was parked in my driveway.

What’s the Big Deal?

Converting a school bus into a home on wheels is not a task for the faint of heart. There are numerous challenges and uncertainties along the way. The first is deciding that the Skoolie route is the best one for you. Once you’ve made that determination, the next big question is ‘How am I going to do this?” Is that ever a loaded question! So, you head to the search engines, Pinterest, and Youtube. There are so many options and opinions. But the questions keep mounting.

And it’s not just the ‘how’ that’s driving you crazy. It’s the self-doubt, wondering if you are even qualified or capable of doing what needs to be done. I mean, it does sound kind of nuts, doesn’t it? There are probably a few of your friends, family, or coworkers who think you’ve lost your mind. So you start to wonder if maybe they’re right. Believe me when I tell you, they are NOT!

What Can I Do About It?

Even if you are not a skilled carpenter or plumber by trade, you CAN convert your own school bus. The only real skills you need to bring to the table are common sense and a willingness to learn. You don’t have to keep asking ‘how’ and ‘if’ anymore. We’ve broken down each stage of the conversion process into bite-size, easy to follow tutorials and videos into an online course. With 9 modules released over the course of 9 weeks, the Step-By-Step School Bus Conversion course takes you from purchasing your bus to your first Skoolie adventure. Each module provides everything you need to know, including tools and materials, to complete your own basic bus conversion.

The Nine Modules Are:

  • Buy the Right Bus
  • Gut Your Bus
  • Solid Foundation
  • Exterior
  • Layout and Floor Plan
  • Electric
  • Plumbing
  • Insulating, A/C, and Heat
  • Walls, Storage, Seating, and Sleeping

Accountability and Support

In addition to the course material, you will have access to a private Facebook group consisting of other course students. The support and encouragement of other Skoolie converters will help keep you focused and moving forward toward your goals. You will have a place to go to vent your frustrations, ask your questions and get one-on-one help from not just your peers, but also from Jeff and I. We will be holding office hours weekly to help you with each module’s content should you need it. We want you to celebrate each victory with folks who can appreciate all the work you’ve done and cheer you on.

Bonus Content

Included with a course purchase are two printable products. The first, Bus Binder, is a collection of worksheets for you to fill out and keep in a binder on your bus. It will include all of the pertinent information you MUST have, such as mechanical specs, materials, and more. The Portable Instruction Guide is a printable manual that you can take into your bus as you work through your conversion. Each sheet takes a specific conversion project and gives you step-by-step photo and text instructions. These are great for hanging up to your bus wall with a magnet and use as a reference as you work. These resources combined are valued at $50, but we are including them with this course for FREE!

I enjoyed all your school bus conversion course’s, I learned how to inspect a school bus by learning to operate one even tho I didn’t get an CDL license. It was the (Bus Pre Trip Inspection) this list is what you would use to learn to take the test for your bus CDL.now it didn’t talk about checking the floor for rot and decay, it was educating to learn how to inspect the bus for safety problems before going on the road

Jim, Thanks so much for taking the time to leave us a comment. It is encouraging to know that our courses helped you. You make a great point about checking the floor for rot and decay. I will go back and add it. Most of the time, rust is a huge factor in determining if the floor has issues. Also, walking on it while pushing down, will tell you if it is swaying in spots. One huge factor is if the floor has humps in it. This would mean that the rust has built up under the flooring. We are excited that you are a part of our blog and journey. We have some exciting things on the horizon. Stay tuned!

All I want to do is take my dogs to dog shows in this bus. How can I get affordable insurance? I have the seats out and the floor and dogs crates bolted to the floor. Shades on the windows. That is all I need.
